Student nurse commits suicide in protest over the course she was offered

21-year-old first year Nursing Assistant student, Bertha Frimpong killed herself in protest over the course she was offered at the Asante Mampong Nursing and Midwifery Training School in the Ashanti Region.

Reports indicates she has always desired General Nursing programme.

The second suicide recorded in the Ashanti region in a tertiary institution this year after that of an 18-year old first year student of the KNUST.

Bertha Frimpong is alleged to have drunk Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and went unconscious.

She was rushed to the Mampong Government Hospital by her colleagues on Wednesday, April 19 and was later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where she passed away on Friday, April 21.

The Mampong Divisional Commander of Police, Chief Superintendent Mr Wisdom Lavoe said the police did not find any suicide note.
