Accra Sports Stadium Owes ECG GH¢1 million

The Director General of the National Sports Authority Mr. Joe Kpenge has revealed that the Accra Sports Stadium owes the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) bills amounting to about GH¢1m.

The Director General of the National Sports Authority Mr. Joe Kpenge has revealed that the Accra Sports Stadium owes the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) bills amounting to about GH¢1m.

He made this shocking disclosure to the Sports Minister Hon. Isaac Asiamah during his inspection tour of the stadium on Tuesday.

According to Mr. Kpenge, the indebtedness to ECG has resulted in the cutting of power to the stadium for over a year, and he used the opportunity of the Minister’s visit to appeal for government’s support to avert the situation.

“This is what we have been telling you all along, that close to a year we have not had electricity and that is where the problem is.

The Accra Stadium alone owes the ECG close to or over GH¢1m and it’s a problem we’ve been battling with for a long time. So the bottom-line is that we seriously need electricity restored here at the stadium,” he told the minister.

The Sports Minister Hon. Isaac Asiamah confirmed after his tour that rehabilitation works at the stadium will begin in June this year.
